Plant Days and Art of Gardening at Château de Jossigny

[Article in partnership with the Marne et Gondoire Tourist Office].
An unmissable floral event in a historic monument and its extensive grounds: that's what awaits you every autumn in Seine et Marne. It's the ideal season for planting, but also for getting spooked in a life-size escape game in a château, or discovering the many arts and crafts workshops located in the dynamic Marne et Gondoire region.

A beautiful start to autumn

The inspiring Château de Jossigny in Seine et Marne is the setting for the annual "Plant Days and Art of Gardening ". For this 7th edition, 80 professional exhibitors (nurserymen, horticulturists, landscape gardeners, ceramists, sculptors...) will be presenting their wares on the theme of "Please draw me a garden".

It's a convivial event at a time that's ideal for autumn planting: thanks to the advice offered by these renowned players in their field, visitors can find out which trees, plants or flowers to plant at the start of the season, and they can also buy braziers, birdhouses or sculpted furniture to liven up their gardens or terraces.

Another good reason to visit this place with a beautiful 7-hectare park during the last weekend of September: take advantage of workshops on potting, flower arranging or Kokedama (this trendy Japanese plant art), learn about composting or attend lectures.

For bargains and great encounters.
I love it and recommend it to everyone!

But the highlight of the 2023 program will undoubtedly be the christening of the Aster de Jossigny, the autumnal flower that has been specially designed for this edition. In the presence of its godmother, Jardin tv columnist Caroline Munoz, the creation of Seine-et-Marne nurseryman François Lemaître will be revealed to all on Saturday at 11:30 am.

You can celebrate the event by sampling delicious local specialties’, with several Seine-et-Marne producers offering to showcase their culinary creations during this convivial weekend.

To extend your discovery...

This not-to-be-missed floral event is also an opportunity to talk to the craftsmen who work all year round on the Château de Jossigny estate. For several months now, the French National Monuments Centre, owner of this listed site, has been hosting a third-party workshop in its outbuildings: Les ateliers de Jossigny. Focusing mainly on arts and crafts, the workshops bring together mosaicists, model-makers, weavers, jewelers, straw markers, upholsterers and specialized manufacturers (of lampshades, floral arrangements, stage sets and props).

The expertise of the Arts & Métiers d'Art sector is also showcased in other third-party venues in this Île-de-France region, including La Tannerie in Marne et Gondoire, Carré d'Art just a stone's throw away, and workshops such as Ulgador (Jossigny), which can be visited every year in early April during the European Crafts Days.

Located in a former factory, La Tannerie is home to some fifty workshops. An alternative Berlin-style place where creativity flourishes, it is open to the public all year round, even if, for accessibility or safety reasons, not all artists and craftspeople can open their doors to visitors.

... Or to shiver with pleasure

Since you're at Château de Jossigny and Halloween is coming, how about diving into the dark secrets of this 18th-century monument? For over 250 years, the Castle has been the scene of numerous events, and its dusty secret passages are said to shelter... ghosts.

Like them, but without disturbing them - which won't be easy, given the creaky period parquet flooring - you'll have to wander around the castle, which is usually closed to the public (it's easy to see why...), solving riddles devised by a historian. At nightfall, in groups of 4 to 8 players and for 1h30, you'll have to solve an age-old mystery with your daring and acuity.

A unique experience in the 300 m² of this architectural masterpiece where you may lose touch with reality, fortunately 2 game masters (and important characters in the scenario) will be there to accompany you throughout this dark and enigmatic adventure. Good luck!

Super experience, ultra immersive, top acting, with some great scares!
