The meeting of art and craft

[Article in partnership with Lumière de Verre]
Relaxing, contemplative, poetic...: these are the adjectives most often used by spectators in front of the light projection technique developed by Lumière de Verre. A know-how between art and craft that, by sublimating monuments, invites to (re)discover them. Illustration with some (unfortunately ephemeral) productions of the Chartres-based company.

An open-air museum

Saint-Julien-de-Civry
After the illumination of the churches of Varenne-l'Arconce (2019) and Charolles (2021), Lumière de Verre's third collaboration with the Pays de Charolais-Brionnais focused on the enhancement of a... village! The village of Saint-Julien-de-Civry, between Auvergne and Bourgogne, offered in the summer of 2022 a contemplative stroll to its inhabitants and visitors from the surrounding area, who were attracted, in parallel to the illumination of several buildings, by activities conducive to exchanges: guided tours, games, music, refreshments...
The route, particularly immersive thanks to the total absence of light pollution in the vicinity, allowed residents to rediscover their village while bringing together local actors. All agree that the animation made them (even more) proud to live in this site labeled Country of Art and History and candidate for inclusion in the UNESCOs World Heritage List as a living cultural landscape.

Beaulieu-en-Rouergue
A contemporary art center in a former Cistercian abbey? As if the project was not crazy enough, the monument belonging to the National Monuments Centre has been the object of an ambitious animation for its reopening after 2 years of works: a scenography of 5 luminous paintings accompanied by musical impromptus.

The musical composition, created specifically for the event, was proposed by musicians who interacted directly with the public, thus completing the visual experience which, unlike mapping, is very conducive to strolling. The works projected on the buildings being static, the spectators can indeed discuss while strolling at their own pace or, as it was the case this summer in this beautiful abbey of Tarn-et-Garonne, let themselves be embarked by the musicians in the discovery of the various spaces of this ephemeral "Glass Cloister".

The dialogue of light and glass

Ambronay
We remain in music, and in an abbey, with the 43rd festival of baroque music (one of the largest in France) held each year in this city of the Ain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Entitled "Between land and sea", the artistic work conceived by Lumière de Verre was accompanied by a soundtrack inspired by nature.

Comfortably installed on deckchairs, visitors could let themselves be carried away by the contemplation of the site, especially the tower of the archives dressed in "glass folds".

To stimulate reverie and encourage the imagination: a program totally in line with the vocation of this monument, which also serves as an artistic residence and cultural meeting center throughout the year.

Blois
Concert by Lazcar Volcano, DJ set by Nickodemus, piano recital by Léa Mecque but also tales and stories told to adults: it is within the framework of the event "Summer Lyres 2022" that the garden of the bishop's palace and the town hall of the chief town of Loir-et-Cher welcomed the creations of Lumière de Verre. During a sleepless night, the visitors let themselves be carried away in the rediscovery of this vegetal and built heritage, their lighting often allowing to reveal details that are not very visible, or forgotten, when we pass by every day.

Noirlac
Crowned with success, this 3rd edition of "Light! - A stroll in light and sound" proposed a renewed itinerary with the enhancement of other surfaces of one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys but also the proposal of new luminous paintings.

During 10 evenings between July and August, the event attracted both faithful and new visitors who came with their families to admire this architectural jewel of the Cher region which, since the 12th century, has lived several lives. Successive uses have allowed it to be preserved and then transformed, today, into a Cultural Encounter Center. A rich history to which Lumière de Verre pays tribute through the various immersive experiences it has offered over the past 3 years.

To learn more about its know-how, go to the other article that we dedicate to this company from Chartres, THE city of stained-glass art. An expertise in the artistic work of glass that the founders revisit today by proposing a new form of dialogue between the material and the light.
