The fortified city of Riquewihr

Discover one of the most beautiful villages in France! Located in the heart of the famous Alsace wine route, the fortified city of Riquewihr offers you a delicious immersion in the history of the region and its vineyards.

A perfectly preserved historical heritage

Riquewihr takes its name from its first owner in Roman times, "Richo", who realized the potential of the land. From the name of his estate, "Richovilla", the name of the town will become "Richovilare" and then Riquewihr.

Over the centuries, the city has been able to resist the wars and sieges that have punctuated its history. The protection of its ramparts makes it one of the best-preserved villages in Alsace, spared from the destruction linked to these various conflicts.

The car park at the entrance to the town allows you to leave your car behind and discover the town as a whole during an entirely pedestrian route. You will be able to stroll in its pedestrian streets and admire superb buildings from the Middle Ages, old wells and stone fountains or magnificent interior courtyards. In addition to the beauty of the city, there are several museums along the way.

We recommend a visit to the old prison tower, the Tower of the Thieves or the Dolder Museum in the former Belfry.

A wine estate to discover

Riquewihr is one of the many villages renowned for their exceptional vineyards. It is moreover thanks to its wine that the town acquired fame and prosperity in the 16th century. Take the Grand Cru wine trail at the foot of the Tower of Thieves and look at the vineyard plots and the old town from a different angle. The Agapé estate, to the south of the old town, invites you to meet its winegrowers who are passionate about their profession and their region.

At the end of your visit, it is advisable to continue on your way and head for the next village : Ribeauvillé. Village which will know how to charm you as much as Riquewihr.
