Under the Halles Brassens and Thiers, the Brive-la-Gaillarde market is held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For the town, it is a veritable institution around which many local producers gather. Farmhouse chickens, seasonal vegetables and mushrooms accompany here the most emblematic regional specialities such as figs stuffed with foie gras, duck confit or the most enigmatic tourtous, thick pancakes made from buckwheat flour. Another flagship product of this market: cabécou, a soft goat cheese from Quercy to be tasted as soon as possible!
For the brivists, the market is above all a privileged moment of exchange and meeting... In order to continue the walk in the stalls, you will find at the Tourist Office a magnificent collection of black and white pictures of this 100% authentic and 100% local market.
The city of Corrèze, with its strong identity, also possesses an ancestral know-how: that of liqueurs. The Denoix distillery, labelled "Entreprise du patrimoine vivant", participates in the transmission of this tradition by making products according to the original method of 1839.
Specializing in local walnuts, rare liqueurs and Brive violet mustard (in the purest tradition of 19th century liquorists), it is possible to visit this place by discovering the leather cauldrons, the original alembic and by attending certain stages of the recipes such as the grinding of green walnuts used in the manufacture of liqueurs and aperitifs. Of course, the visit ends with a tasting of the products!
For simple gourmets as well as for the most discerning connoisseurs, the Pays de Brive is an ideal destination because the area highlights the richness of its soil and the friendliness of its proud inhabitants with their singing accent.
Around the town, you will also find many villages classified among the most beautiful in France; it is particularly pleasant to walk around and discover a rich and complex heritage. For any information useful to discover this land.
