The MUba Eugene Leroy

The MUba Eugene Leroy is located in the private mansion of the former mayor of Tourcoing, Charles Roussel. The museum has an important collection of the artist Eugène Leroy as well as works by Rembrandt, Millet and Boilly.

A dialogue between classical and contemporary works

The museum was renamed after an important donation of works by the contemporary artist Eugène Leroy in 2009. This painter from Tourcoing, who studied at the Lille School of Fine Arts, remained, despite his international reputation in the contemporary art world, attached to his native region where he spent most of his life. His paintings are characterized by a thick accumulation of layers of paint of different colours, where the attentive eye can see shapes, landscapes or bodies.

The museum changes its collections every 3 to 6 months and classical works such as those by Louis-Léopold Boilly, Rembrandt, Jacques des Rousseaux or Théodor Rombouts (see opposite The cupbearer; allegory of temperance) rub shoulders with contemporary works by Angela Graeurholz, Rémi Guerrin and Philippe Cazal.

The particularity of the museum is to put into dialogue the works of the permanent collection with those exhibited temporarily. More specific temporary exhibitions are also organized occasionally.
