Do you know ehe word "escarpin" comes from scarpino, which means "small shoe" in Italian ? An emblem of elegance and femininity, high-heels have become an essential accessory to gain some height elegantly.
The history of these shoes goes back to ancient Egypt where butchers wore high-platform shoes to avoid staining their feet with blood. These shoes, initially intended for men only, were worn by the valets who had to tighten their feet to keep them in place.
In the 16th century, the chopines, slippers topped with high platforms, were reserved for ladies in order not to dirty their dresses.
A century later, heeled shoes are fashionable at the Court of Versailles and were worn indiscriminately by men and women from the nobility and the bourgeoisie.
They were often adorned with lace, ribbons and even precious stones.
In the 1920s, high heels became a women-only shoe. This period marks their emancipation, they gain power and show that they can remain feminine.
At that time high heels were almost exclusively worn in the evening.
Their appearance in 1947 at a Dior show revived the trend. A symbol of seduction, the shoes gained height in 1950, the year of the invention of stilettos: a metal rod was inserted in the heels to make them more resistant and keep them upright.
This idea is attributed to two great French shoemakers: Charles Jourdan and Roger Vivier, they worked for Christian Dior who said he wanted to "finish the silhouette with a stroke of a pencil".
Today, high heels are worn in the evening as well as during the day and there are models more extravagant than the others. They come in different shapes, colours and materials, there's something for everyone! Their success is such that many designers appropriate them in order to make them even more glamorous and original. One of the most famous brands for its high heels is Louboutin. Finding the shoes too black, Christian Louboutin decided to paint the sole with red varnish: success was not long in coming and the model has been worn by the biggest international stars since its creation in 1991.
Whatever the style you want to emit, there is a model of high-heels adapted to your desires.
You can find a selection of traditional shoes, with heels between 3 and 5 centimeters. Vous pourrez opter pour un bout en pointe avec un cuir noir soigneusement travaillé. For a slightly more original look, you could opt for a brown leather that goes perfectly with summer outfits.
Models with an open heel held in place by a strap offer comfort and aesthetics. You can also opt for something more exotic, with the snakeskin models. They are particularly popular for evening and gala wear.
They bring a wild side to your outfit that highlights your identity as a free woman.
Finally, for the more extravagant models, you may opt for gold models, which you will wear with a beautiful dress and matching jewelry. Vous pouvez aussi oser quelque chose de plus décalé, avec des escarpins roses en latex. This type of model is worn for theme parties, or even excursions with your close friends. A great way to stand out, always with style
