The castle of Breteuil

Little Red Riding Hood, the booted cat, Sleeping Beauty... Who hasn't been lulled to sleep by Charles Perrault's famous tales? What would you say to diving into these legendary stories again during a visit to the Château de Breteuil?

A historical visit

Located a few kilometres from Paris, the Château de Breteuil takes you on a fun and original tour of 4 centuries of history.
Originally a family home, the visit proposes to follow the different generations who lived there, each of them having rubbed shoulders with the greatest figures of French History.

Bathrooms, kitchens or even secret offices, the castle, entirely restored and furnished with 18th century furniture, gives a faithful insight into the daily life of these different chatelains.

The particularity of the castle of Breteuil are the wax statues that punctuate your visit. From Marie Antoinette to Gambetta via Marcel Proust, you will meet all these famous characters staged alongside the Dukes of Breteuil.

A fairy-tale castle

In charge of the reconstruction of the castle, Séverine de Breteuil wanted to pay tribute to the friendship that united the storyteller Charles Perrault with one of the family's ancestors.

Scattered all over the castle's outbuildings and its surroundings, eight famous tales by the famous 17th century man of letters are told and staged for the happiness of young and old alike. In the stables or in the heart of a labyrinth: the search for story scenes allows you to discover other parts of the castle, once places of daily life.

With this fairy-tale theme, its wax statues and reconstructed rooms, the castle has a strong educational vocation and the guided tours of the castle are adapted to each age group so that the youngest can learn history while having fun.

Superb staging for young and old alike, the park is magnificent
and the playground immense!

So, are you ready to plunge back into childhood - and into French history - while having fun? Check out the château's website, which regularly offers new activities such as, on May 28, 2023, a Belle Epoque historical re-enactment: following the eighth marquis of the Breteuil family, you can meet King Edward VII of England, writer Marcel Proust and actress Réjane, all guests of Henri de Breteuil in the 1900s.

Unlike his prestigious visitors, when you come you'll be able to use an innovative "digital postcard" solution, as the Château de Breteuil works with the Watch’Mcard® video tourist guide, which allows you to personalize and share short films already shot on site.

So don't hesitate, whether it's for this heritage site or for other monuments that you will visit all over France, to download the application (here for GooglePlay or here for the Apple Store).
