Insolite visit on Rivoli Street

Walking in Rivoli Street, tourist mode activated, a doormat of coins catches my eyes. Intrigued by these surprising objects that framed the step of the door of 59 rue Rivoli, I decided to enter, and then discovered an amazing squat of artists.

A unique place at the turn of the emblematic monuments of the capital.

Rivoli Street, located in the first district of Paris, is known as one of the main routes of the capital, where the prestigious Louvre Museum, the historic Concorde and Pyramides squares join the Tuileries Garden.

Bordered by edifying Haussmann buildings, the Rivoli Street is a must-see for visitors of the city.

Yet, it hides a place often unknown to passers-by. At number 59, between historical monuments and shops, there is an alternative artistic place.

An artistic escapade off the beaten track

In this six-story residence exclusively dedicated to artistic expression are exhibited works of all kinds : paintings, graffiti, sculptures, or also unusual objects. This atypical museum is open to all, free, and offers a cultural and playful experience that will please to both art lovers and curious people.

In this unique atmosphere full of history, where the works are piled up, on top of each other, where walls, floors and ceilings have been covered with paint over time, we can catch a glimpse of this authentic and emblematic ambience of Paris : « la bohême ».

Idea of an original souvenir made to measure.

This timeless experience buzzes of Parisian life is also human; it is a time of meetings and exchanges with the exhibitors.

If you are looking for a unique souvenir of Paris, the artists, in addition to selling their works, can make you a personalized piece. During my visit, I asked Francesco Bouhbal, one of the permanent artists, if he could paint on a denim shirt that I had bought in a thrift shop in the neighborhood called « le marais », which is close to the squat.

Thirty minutes later, I left with my portrait painted on this shirt and a lasting memory of this place full of magic.

Throughout the year, 59 rue de Rivoli offers many temporary exhibitions but also some permanent collections. A great idea for an original outing for your rainy Sundays!
